Rising Sun

At sunset, a 6-metre geodesic sphere of mirrored panels transforms into a glowing sun suspended above the sea. Built from timber, steel, and light, Rising Sun explores the balance between natural energy and human construction — an artificial dawn rising as the real one fades.

Created in collaboration with production designer Christopher Daniel and sound artist Toby Wiltshire, the installation pairs multichannel sound with reactive light sequences that shift as the sky darkens. The result is part sculpture, part performance — a sensory conversation between the sun setting and its mechanical echo coming to life.

Originally commissioned by Bournemouth Arts by the Sea, the piece later travelled to Liverpool Light Night, where it continued to evolve through each staging, responding to new horizons and weather conditions.
