Come Dance with Me
Two sisters, wartime Darlington and dreams of the dance floor.
My role: Projection Design
Based on Karen Lynne's family history, Come Dance with Me follows two sisters in Darlington from 1938 to 1951. Lillian dreams of becoming a professional dancer; Joy wants a chain of shops. War, loss and family responsibilities sit alongside the escape offered by ballroom dancing and Hollywood musicals.
The projected settings move from workshops, stations and family rooms into the world of the dance floor. Richard Marcel's choreography brings the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers influence into those changes of scene, shifting between everyday life and the sisters' ambitions. The production toured in autumn 2019.
