Diary of a Football Nobody

Notts County in the 1970s, brought to the stage through football, memory and comic-strip scenery.

My role: Projection Design

William Ivory adapted David McVay's memoir for Nottingham Playhouse, following life at Notts County in the mid-1970s. The story moves between the pitch, the dressing room and the lives of the players beyond football, with Perry Fitzpatrick playing McVay and Eric Richard as manager Jimmy Sirrel.

The projection gives those memories a drawn world. Stadium terraces, shopfronts, changing rooms and larger-than-life portraits appear across the set's upright panels. Black-and-white linework carries most of the detail, with flashes of colour connecting the live cast to the comic-strip scenery around them.
