Living Lakes (Michigan)

The Living Lakes follows African American and Latino migration through the Midwest, combining dance, projected landscapes and sound. Devised by Anita Gonzalez and Joel Valentín-Martínez, with music by Jonathan Girling, the work places individual journeys within the geography of the Great Lakes.

The original staging in Ann Arbor brought University of Michigan students into a changing projected environment. Maps, lakeside grasses, silhouettes and fields of figures move around and across the dancers, connecting the live bodies on stage to the places and communities in the story.
