Artist in Focus: Rana Begum

Colour, light and geometry in Rana Begum's studio.

My role: Direction, Editor

Rana Begum works between painting, sculpture and architecture, using colour and geometric forms to explore how light changes what we see. Everyday structures and patterns become a starting point for works whose surfaces shift as the viewer moves around them.

Filmed in her studio for Arts Council Collection, this portrait follows Begum's approach to materials, repeated forms and reflected colour. Natalie Rudd interviewed the artist in January 2020 for the touring exhibition Breaking the Mould: Sculpture by Women Since 1945.
